Should You Accept Personal Checks for Payments?

I might consider getting paid with a personal check if it was payment for a $10 job. But for high-dollar value freelance jobs, I would not recommend it. Personal checks can bounce if the payer’s account does not have sufficient funds. Then you’ll have to deal with re-collecting payment from the client, as well as trying your luck getting reimbursed by the client for the $25 or $30 fee that the bank has assessed you for depositing that check. There are other reasons why I prefer accepting other types of payments rather than a personal check.

If it’s an absolute must that a client pays with a check, then I recommend that you request for a MONEY ORDER or a CERTIFIED CHECK. Those are guaranteed funds, so you won’t have to worry about bounced checks. So far, none of my clients have objected when I’ve asked for payments with MONEY ORDER or a CERTIFIED CHECK.

hi, i have never purchased designer checks in past but my friend uses them. i’m thinking of buying some of these checks here http://www.devduff.com/finance/tinkerbell-personal-checks.php but so far i’m not sure if they are cheaper than my bank checks. i have never tried to know how much the bank charges for checks.

Personal checks are cool! I love using designer checks to make my payments, so does millions of other people.
