An online community and resource site for freelancers & work-at-home folks

For those that have a portfolio of domains but are not using them, why are you doing that? Don’t let them fall in the cracks and go to waste. Why don’t you monetize your non-active domain names?

Here’s what you can do. Login to your domain registrar and look at the list of domain names you current own but are inactive (by inactive, we mean a domain that is not associated with a website. In other words, it’s just blank). Looks for names with potentially valuable keywords such as loans, tutorial, love, business, and other general terms that can be found in the dictionary. Write them down on a piece of paper.

If you have existing websites, then you already have a web hosting provider… and most hosting providers these days allow you to host multiple websites under one account. If not, here are a few that allow you to do that:

Next, put up a blog (or a video blog) and surround it with articles (or videos) related to the keyword of that domain name you had. Surround it with Adsense or Amazon affiliate links. When someone clicks on your Adsense ads, you earn money for that click. When someone purchases something on Amazon from your affiliate link, you earn a commission. Now, you’re monetizing your site… and you can just leave it alone for as long as you want! In return, the site is making you passive income. Not only that, but it’s also building value over time. That’s better than having a dormant, inactive domain!

Here’s an example of one that we just put up the other day: House Loan Expert (HouseLoanExpert.com). For content, it pulls videos from youtube about loans, mortgages, or houses. The visitors don’t have to leave the House Loan Expert site because the videos play on the site itself without having to go to YouTube.

Are you going to be a millionaire doing this? Probably not. The point is, at least you’ve made better use of your inactive domain name. That’s better than nothing!
