An online community and resource site for freelancers & work-at-home folks

There are millions of blogs on the internet. If your blog is just like any other blogs out there, the chances are, no one’s going to read it, much less subscribe to it. So, how can you differentiate your blog then?

1. Voice – Your style of writing makes the difference between interesting read or uninteresting. Manolo the shoe blogger is the blogger was the first blogger I remember reading with a really unique voice (he writes in the third person). I’m not saying all style of writing is acceptable, but those that do will make your blog more memorable. Take Copyblogger for example.

2, Design – The way your blog looks is a great way to make an impression, grab attention and stand out from the crowd. The cheapest way to get a unique design is through purchasing a custom theme.

3. Vaults of Resources – some bloggers become successful because their blogs are just filled with such rich resources. These bloggers might not have as much original thought but they are passionate about gathering information and resources from others and sharing it with their network. People read them because they save them time by researching and gathering the information that the rest of us need but don’t have time to find.

4. A memorable domain name – Your blog name is your brand. It’s wise to remember that a good domain name is both short and memorable. To stand out, a domain name can be either confronting, funny or otherwise.

5. Opinion – one of the easiest ways to make your blog is to share your opinion. Your opinions won’t always be unique but the combination of them and the way you express yourself will be and will often set yourself apart from other bloggers who just report news.

6. Connectors – other bloggers are successful because they are so well connected in their niche. They not only know a lot of people but they have a gift in helping others to connect with those in their network.

7. Expertise – Having authority in a given field can really set your blog apart from the others. People are more willing to read and learn from you, than blogs that does not have any authority in the subject.

8. Personal – I think the best blog that make use of this technique to differentiate itself from other blogs of the same niche is John Chow. Although John Chow talks about making money online, he also shares his view on cars, parenting and just about anything you could think of.
