I enjoy my work as a freelancer. Some freelance jobs I have undertaken have definitely challenged my skills, time management abilities, and sometimes challenged my passion. (Speaking of passion, here are some comments by our Forum members regarding the subject)
Nonetheless, freelancing on the web is definitely rewarding. I’ve been doing this for several years now, and to date I still love what I do! Of course, you don’t have to do this to replace your full-time work if you have one. You can freelance on a part time basis and supplement your existing income. If you find that you’re actually making more money freelancing on the side than working fulltime, then by all means say good bye to your boss! (At least that’s what I’d do).
Here are just a few of the benefits I have experienced as a freelancer:
- I can work at home - As a freelancer, I can work at the comfort of my own home. Of course, this won’t work out for you if you hate being at home, especially if someone drives you crazy!
- I can set my own hours - As a freelancer, I can work when I have time available in my hands. I decide when to work and what jobs to tackle. I decide my own hours. When I need a break, I can take one anytime and then come back to work on a project when my mind is refreshed.
- I don’t have to commute to work - I hate driving through traffic. I guess I’m very impatient when it comes to sitting in the car stuck in rush-hour traffic for an hour or so, surrounded by noise and people who are ready to explode at any time because they also hate being stuck in that traffic just like me!
- I decide how much I get paid - As a freelancer, I get to decide how much to charge for the services and skills I provide. Why let someone else dictate how much you are worth?
Those are just a few that I can think of right now. If you are a freelancer and enjoy your job, please don’t hesitate to reply with the benefits you yourself have experienced.

[...] Certainly, there are many benefits to working at home when you have a home business to run. However, working at home can also be a tough experience, particularly when you have distractions (TV, children, snacks, personal calls, etc.) that take your focus away from your task at hand. Things can come up too, and you’ll end up accomplishing nothing. It is for these and other reasons that you need to set goals for yourself. [...]
